'Small Beats Big' Tip 8 in a series of practical strategy, marketing and branding tips this week in the run up to Friday's Butterfly Branding Webinar with Studio Maximus's Neil Humphreys.
Small Beats Big Tip 8: Talk And Behave Long-Term
Don't allow any hint of 'here today, gone tomorrow' in your business: I'm all for planning and pragmatism, but start talking about your retirement or your next venture once you have sold this business, and you will create an air of short-termism and spook your customers and suppliers alike.
Better to provide reassurance that you are planning to be around to grow the business and nurture your key relationships for the long-term.
Consider putting place a visible 'anchor' to further reinforce your tenure and commitment - This might be in the form of a succession plan or strong associate-partnerships, or simply membership of a professional institution or trade body. Any or all of these can be very effective in providing weight and backing and the promise that someone can pick up the reins should you make a (planned or unplanned) exit.
