'Small Beats Big' Tip 5 in a series of practical strategy, marketing and branding tips this week in the run up to Friday's Butterfly Branding Webinar with Studio Maximus's Neil Humphreys.
Small Beats Big Tip 5: Trust Your Instincts
If you are the founder of the business then you probably already have a pretty good instinct about what does and doesn't work. Fortunately, unlike your bigger rivals, you don't have to justify every activity and initiative up the line; sometimes you can just go with gut feel.
This is a huge advantage; it gives you the freedom to experiment, and look into new areas and approaches that would simply be off-limits to others. This is, for example, why so many larger businesses struggle with social media; they can't get their heads around the lack of immediate tangible returns.
Use your superior flexibility and freedom to shake things up a little: Speculate and experiment with some different marketing streams, maybe pilot a new product/service line, or a new networking approach or referral incentive. You might be surprised with the results!
Keep in mind: Experimentation is not the same as randomness. You still need to keep true to your Vision and Values, and to use that all important business-owner's instinct.
